ASIAN WOMEN LAW
Introduction
In December 1995, the Asian Women Law Institute, which was established as an institution for academic research and protection of the interests of women law professors, has been publishing academic journals every year since the publication of the first issue of the journal 『Asia Women Law』 in 1998. Over 200 prominent scholars from Japan, China, and Korea have participated in this journal. In addition to the publication of academic journals, we also hold seminars and conferences to review the progress achieved with scholars and practitioners interested in the development of law through academic activities.
In retrospect, the academic society that first used the term 'Asian law' in Korea is our Asia Women Law Research Institute. In Japan, studies on Asian law have already been carried out since the late 1960s. In Korea, however, since the beginning of the 2000s, with the increased economic exchanges and cooperation with other Asian countries, the interest in Asian law has also begun to increase.
The interest and research on the legal system of neighboring countries and the exchange for those are aimed at spreading the legal value to guarantee the human life of Asian people, beyond the goal that is to export laws and legislations to the developing countries and form new market in terms of development-policy. The journal 『Asia Women Law』 will also kept trying to achieve this objective. Although the Asian law study still leaves much to be desired, we think that the research environment will improve gradually with the joining of the young women in Asia such as China, Japan, and Korea.
We look forward to your interest and support in our institute and academic activities. We would be grateful if you could visit any time, attend to conferences and give us some advice and encouragement.
